TIMELESS:
Diego and the Rangers of the Vastlantic (#1)
by Armand Baltazar
Katherine Tegen Books, Fall 2017

The world did not end. At least not permanently.

The Time Collision came from beyond the stars, a cosmic event that fractured time and space, tearing apart the earth and reshaping it into something entirely new. This is the world Diego Ribera was born into. The past, present, and future coexisting together.

Timeless.

In New Chicago, Diego’s middle school hallways buzz with kids from all eras of history and from cultures all over the world. The pieces do not always fit together neatly, but this is the world he loves. There are those, however, who do not share his affection.

On his thirteenth birthday, Diego learns of a special gift he has within, a secret that is part of something much bigger-something he cannot understand. When his father, New Chicago’s top engineer, is taken by the Aeternum, Diego must rescue him and prevent this evil group from disrupting the fragile piece humanity has forged.

With stunning illustrations, Armand Baltazar delivers an epic and imaginative new series, a cinematic tour de force about a boy and his friends embarking on a journey to save their world, and about the unshakeable bond of family.

Armand Baltazar was born on Chicago’s North Side, not far from the famed Wrigley Field. After attending the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Armand began a visual storytelling career in feature animation as a background artist, visual development artist, and art director for DreamWorks Studios, Walt Disney, and Pixar Animation. He currently resides in Northern California with his family, creating the art and stories for the epic adventure series Timeless.

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN: HUGE PAIN IN MY… de Adam Mansbach et Alan Zweibel

The hilarious middle-grade debut of the author of GO THE F**K TO SLEEP

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN: HUGE PAIN IN MY…
by Adam Mansbach and Alan Zweibel
Hyperion, September 2015

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN: HUGE PAIN IN MY… introduces us to 13-year-old Franklin Isaac « Ike » Saturday, who lives an uneventful life (save for having the worst stepfather on the planet). Then his history teacher assigns a fateful project: each student must write to the historical figure of their choice as a pen pal. Ike decides to write to Benjamin Franklin (whom he was named after) and duly completes the assignment — but after he presents it in class, he steals one of his stepfather’s prized 1770s-era stamps and mails his letter to Benjamin Franklin as a practical joke.

Ike forgets all about the incident until he receives a letter with a similarly old stamp…and with a return address from a « B. Franklin » in Philadelphia. What follows is an imaginative, riotously funny exchange of letters between an awkward teenager and a revered statesman who offers him his legendary advice on family, friends, enemies, girls, and everything in between.

Adam Mansbach is the New York Times Bestselling author of GO THE F**K TO SLEEP, which was translated in over 30 languages.

Alan Zweibel is a former “Saturday Night Live” writer and the author of LUNATICS, co-written with Dave Barry.

THE WITCH’S BOY

Kelly Barnhill

Algonquin Young Readers, September 2014

In the tradition of Neil Gaiman and Kate DiCamillo, THE WITCH’S BOY is at once engagingly lyrical and breathtakingly adventurous.  With a deft hand, Barnhill takes fairy tale elements – speaking stones, a bandit king and his practical daughter, and a spoiled young king – and weaves them into a richly detailed narrative that feels both classic and completely fresh at the same time!

Even the revered Witch can’t save her sons when they are swept into a raging river, and only one boy, Ned – the wrong boy – survives.  Nonetheless, it is up to him to protect his mother’s magic (hidden and kept safe under their house) from the Bandit King who wants to steal the magic for its rightful owner.  Ned must summon the unruly magic for himself, and with the help of the Aine, the Bandit King’s daughter, try to save his family and put the magic back to rest.
