Le cozy mystery MANGO, MAMBO AND MURDER de Raquel V. Reyes bientôt adapté en série

Le studio de production mexicano-américain Gato Grande/Amazon MGM Studios adaptera le cozy mystery MANGO, MAMBO AND MURDER de Raquel V. Reyes, premier volet de la série Caribbean Kitchen Mysteries, en série TV sous le titre Miami Spice. A l’origine du projet, le scénariste et producteur cubano-américain Art Alamo qui a travaillé sur la série New York Police judiciaire.

D’après la PDG de Gato Grande, Carla Vargas Gonzalez, Miami Spice sera une série latino-américaine captivante à l’esprit mordant, comparable à Big Little Lies. (Lire l’article de Variety)

Dans le roman, Miriam Quiñonez-Smith, chercheuse en anthropologie de l’alimentation, met de côté sa carrière universitaire pour aller s’installer dans le quartier de Coral Shores à Miami avec son mari et son fils. Après avoir trouvé un emploi temporaire en tant qu’experte en cuisine caribéenne dans une émission de télévision matinale, elle se retrouve mêlée à une affaire de meurtre. Les soupçons se portent sur un herboriste cubain controversé, et l’inspecteur chargé de l’enquête requiert son aide pour infiltrer la communauté hispanophone et le milieu social de Coral Shores, ce qui la met elle-même en danger.

THE WEDDING PEOPLE d’Alison Espach bientôt adapté au cinéma

La société de production TriStar Pictures a remporté aux enchères les droits d’adaptation du prochain roman d’Alison Espach, THE WEDDING PEOPLE.

A la réalisation, le duo formé par Will Speck et Josh Gordon (Hit Monkey, Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, Blades of Glory, The Switch, Office Christmas Party) adaptera le scénario écrit par Nicole Holofcener (nominée aux Oscars pour le scénario du film Les Faussaires de Manhattan). Les sociétés Speck + Gordon Inc. et Concordia Studio produiront le film en partenariat avec TriStar. (Lire l’article de Deadline)

Dans le roman, Phoebe, à la suite d’une rencontre fortuite dans un ascenseur, se lie d’amitié avec une future mariée et se retrouve invitée à son mariage, ce qui change à jamais le cours de la vie des deux femmes. Le roman sera publié en juillet 2024 par Henry Holt & Co. aux États-Unis.

Donald McNichol Sutherland CC is a Canadian prolific actor and anti-war activist. His film career spans over six decades, including starring roles in films such as The Dirty Dozen, M*A*S*H, Klute, Fellini’s Casanova, and many others. Sutherland has received numerous accolades including a Primetime Emmy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, a Critics Choice Award, and an Academy Honorary Award. He was made an Officer of the Order of Canada (OC) in 1978, a Commandeur of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2012 and received the Companion of the Order of Canada (CC) in 2019.

THE EXPATRIATES de Janice Y. K. Lee adapté par Amazon

Adaptée du roman THE EXPATRIATES de Janice Y. K. Lee publié en 2016 par Viking aux États-Unis, la nouvelle minisérie Les Expatriées (Expats) sera diffusée sur la plateforme Amazon Prime Video à partir du 26 janvier 2024.

Nicole Kidman, dans le rôle principal, interprète le personnage de Margaret, une des trois femmes au cœur de l’intrigue. Elle est également productrice de la série. Elle y joue aux côtés de Sarayu Blue (I Feel Bad, Veep, The Big Bang Theory) et Ji-young Yoo (The Sky is Everywhere).

Amazon écrit : « Ayant pour toile de fond la mosaïque complexe des résidents de Hong Kong, EXPATS dépeint un groupe de femmes aux multiples facettes après qu’une rencontre ait déclenché une chaîne d’événements bouleversants qui obligent chacune à naviguer dans un équilibre complexe entre accusations et responsabilités. »

La série a été mise en scène par la cinéaste Lulu Wang (L’Adieu) comme « un long film » avec son « écosystème plastique qui repose […] sur la terrible verticalité de la ville, de ses tours luxueuses, de ses alignements de gigantesques immeubles d’habitation populaires, de ses collines abruptes, au sommet desquelles habitent les élus. » (Le Monde)

THE EXPATRIATES étudie les identités, les émotions et les relations de ces trois Américaines au caractère très différent, vivant dans la même petite communauté d’expatriés. L’histoire « explore les notions de deuil, de culpabilité, de couple, mais aussi les questions de classe sociale, de race, de privilège et d’appartenance » (The Guardian).
