For well over half a century, Donald Sutherland has been recognized as one of the world’s leading movie actors. Working with such directors as Frederico Fellini, Alan J. Pakula, Oliver Stone, Louis Malle, Robert Altman, Bernardo Bertolucci, Robert Redford, Nicolas Roeg and co-starring with the likes of Jane Fonda, Mary Tyler Moore, Clint Eastwood, Julie Christie, Marlon Brando, Keira Knightley, Jennifer Lawrence, Elliot Gould, Michael Caine and John Belushi, Sutherland’s singular career spans the old Hollywood and the cinematic revolution that began in The Sixties.

In this long-awaited memoir he remembers his complicated Canadian boyhood, his acting studies in the UK, his first international triumph in M.A.S.H., his controversial, headline making anti-Vietnam war activism, his life, loves and family and his celebration by the film community as one of its most venerated and revered performers.

Donald McNichol Sutherland CC is a Canadian prolific actor and anti-war activist. His film career spans over six decades, including starring roles in films such as The Dirty Dozen, M*A*S*H, Klute, Fellini’s Casanova, and many others. Sutherland has received numerous accolades including a Primetime Emmy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, a Critics Choice Award, and an Academy Honorary Award. He was made an Officer of the Order of Canada (OC) in 1978, a Commandeur of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2012 and received the Companion of the Order of Canada (CC) in 2019.

THE EXPATRIATES de Janice Y. K. Lee adapté par Amazon

Adaptée du roman THE EXPATRIATES de Janice Y. K. Lee publié en 2016 par Viking aux États-Unis, la nouvelle minisérie Les Expatriées (Expats) sera diffusée sur la plateforme Amazon Prime Video à partir du 26 janvier 2024.

Nicole Kidman, dans le rôle principal, interprète le personnage de Margaret, une des trois femmes au cœur de l’intrigue. Elle est également productrice de la série. Elle y joue aux côtés de Sarayu Blue (I Feel Bad, Veep, The Big Bang Theory) et Ji-young Yoo (The Sky is Everywhere).

Amazon écrit : « Ayant pour toile de fond la mosaïque complexe des résidents de Hong Kong, EXPATS dépeint un groupe de femmes aux multiples facettes après qu’une rencontre ait déclenché une chaîne d’événements bouleversants qui obligent chacune à naviguer dans un équilibre complexe entre accusations et responsabilités. »

La série a été mise en scène par la cinéaste Lulu Wang (L’Adieu) comme « un long film » avec son « écosystème plastique qui repose […] sur la terrible verticalité de la ville, de ses tours luxueuses, de ses alignements de gigantesques immeubles d’habitation populaires, de ses collines abruptes, au sommet desquelles habitent les élus. » (Le Monde)

THE EXPATRIATES étudie les identités, les émotions et les relations de ces trois Américaines au caractère très différent, vivant dans la même petite communauté d’expatriés. L’histoire « explore les notions de deuil, de culpabilité, de couple, mais aussi les questions de classe sociale, de race, de privilège et d’appartenance » (The Guardian).

STRANGE PLANET de Nathan Pyle sur Apple TV+

Le 9 août, la plateforme Apple TV+ a diffusé les trois premiers épisodes de la série animée STRANGE PLANET de Nathan Pyle adaptée de la BD du même nom.

La série télévisée est cocréée par le producteur Dan Harmon, connu pour son travail sur Community et Rick and Morty, et l’auteur Nathan Pyle. De nouveaux épisodes seront diffusés chaque mercredi jusqu’à la fin de la saison, le 27 septembre 2023.

Dans la BD, best-seller numéro 1 de The New York Times et phénomène international sur les réseaux sociaux, nous partons à la découverte de Strange Planet, une planète lointaine aux couleurs bleues, roses et violettes, où des êtres bleus attachants explorent l’absurdité des habitudes humaines. Cette BD pose « un regard doux et hilarant » sur un monde qui ressemble étrangement au nôtre.

PRETTY LITTLE WIFE de Darby Kane bientôt sur Prime Video

Photo by Nino Munoz Les studios Amazon ont acquis les droits audiovisuels du thriller de Darby Kane, PRETTY LITTLE WIFE, en vue d’une adaptation en série tv, en partenariat avec A+E Studios. Le scénario sera adapté pour le petit écran par les productrices des séries The Flight Attendant et Nashville. L’actrice Gabrielle Union incarnera l’une des deux protagonistes et travaillera également en tant que productrice de la série via sa société de production, I’ll Have Another, qui a pour but de mettre l’accent sur les communautés marginalisées d’une manière authentique.

Le roman, publié par William Morrow en décembre 2020, oppose deux femmes brillantes mais très différentes : Lila, la jolie petite épouse soupçonnée d’avoir assassiné son mari, et Ginny, l’inspectrice chargée de l’affaire. Lorsque leurs deux chemins se croisent, chacune commence à faire tomber le masque de l’autre pour révéler qui se cache vraiment derrière.
